Cemeterarriums!

How INCREDIBLY fun! This year a friend and I decided we wanted to mix both our love for Halloween and for plants, so here we have Cemeterarriums. Yep. A cemetery-styled terrarium.

This is a really fun craft to do anytime around the Halloween season (and by season, I mean October 1 - Thanksgiving. Halloween isn’t just a day, people!)

My friend ended up doing a lot of the fore-planning on this one, and for that I commend her. Hannah, you’re a boss. Ok, so materials!

  1. Glass terrariums

  2. Cactus/Succulent soil mix

  3. Plant Moss

  4. Succulents!

  5. Miniature tombstones, handmade by Hannah

  6. Miniature skeletons

  7. Other miscellaneous spooky items, as desired

After gathering all of our materials, my Hannah and I laid everything out and got started.

  • STEP ONE: Peel your stickers off your terrariums, and unpackages all the things.

  • STEP TWO: Space plan in your terrarium. Mine (pictured) is a little smaller, and I really wanted to use my little mausoleum, so I had to plan accordingly.

  • STEP THREE: Layer about an inch of the cactus/succulent mix on the bottom of your terrarium.

  • STEP FOUR: Gently remove your succulents from their small nursery pots and loosen up their little baby roots.

  • STEP FIVE: Start to arrange your desired succulents, skeletons, creepy little odds and ends.

  • STEP SIX: Once you get things arranged about where you want them, pull out your skeletons and creepy odds and ends.

  • STEP SEVEN: Taking a spoon, slowly start shoveling in more cactus/succulent mix to secure the tiny adorable roots. If you are having a hard time getting things to stay in place, you can use a spritz bottle to lightly moisten the soil.

  • STEP EIGHT: Once all your succulents are in place, add your moss, gently placing around all the corners and cracks.

  • STEP NINE: Throw in the final skeletons and creepy odds and ends, and you’re done!

And with the rest of my skeletons? I slowly snuck them into the rest of my plants.
